Product Introduction

Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine used for type 2 diabetes. It helps control high blood sugar and is commonly used as a first-line diabetes medicine. It may also be used in insulin resistance and selected PCOS cases.

How to use

Take with food to reduce stomach upset. Regular tablets may be taken once or more times daily. SR or XR tablets should be swallowed whole. Taking it consistently helps maintain steadier blood-sugar control. Meal timing, glucose checks and other diabetes medicines should be kept consistent.

How it works

Metformin lowers glucose production in the liver, reduces sugar absorption from the intestine and improves the body's response to insulin. The combined effect is better fasting sugar, post-meal sugar or both.

Common side effects

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, gas, indigestion, metallic taste, loss of appetite, weakness and vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.

Important information

Extra caution is needed with kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, heavy alcohol use or before contrast scans. Keep glucose records and watch for symptoms such as sweating, shaking, confusion, unusual thirst or frequent urination.
