Oral tretinoin 10mg capsules are an all-trans retinoic acid treatment for acute promyelocytic leukaemia within a specialist oncology regimen. Treatment targets this specific leukaemia subtype and is integrated with the selected remission-induction protocol.
How to use
Swallow the capsule intact with food according to the oncology schedule. Do not open, chew or apply the contents to skin. Blood counts, liver tests, lipids and clinical signs are monitored during treatment.
How it works
Tretinoin acts on retinoic-acid receptor signalling in APL cells, overcoming abnormal differentiation blockade and promoting maturation of malignant promyelocytes.
Side effects
Headache, dry lips or skin, nausea, bone pain, fever and blood-lipid changes can occur.
Important information
Differentiation syndrome can be life-threatening. Pregnancy prevention and pregnancy testing are essential; avoid vitamin A supplements and tetracyclines unless specifically reviewed.
