Product Introduction

Armodafinil 150mg is a wakefulness-promoting medicine used for excessive daytime sleepiness linked with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, or shift-work sleep disorder when prescribed. It improves wakefulness but does not cure the underlying sleep disorder and does not replace adequate sleep. In obstructive sleep apnea, it treats residual sleepiness, not the airway obstruction, so CPAP or other airway treatment should continue if prescribed. Armodafinil is usually taken in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep-apnea-related sleepiness, and about one hour before a night shift for shift-work sleep disorder. It may cause headache, nausea, dry mouth, anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, palpitations, raised blood pressure, or reduced appetite. It may be habit-forming and can interact with hormonal contraceptives and several psychiatric, seizure, and cardiovascular medicines.

How to use

Take Armodafinil 150mg exactly as prescribed. For narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea sleepiness, it is usually taken in the morning. For shift-work sleep disorder, it is often taken about one hour before the shift. Avoid taking it late in the day unless directed because insomnia can worsen.

How it works

Armodafinil affects wakefulness pathways in the brain, including dopamine-related signalling, to promote alertness. It reduces excessive sleepiness but does not correct poor sleep duration, untreated sleep apnea, or irregular sleep scheduling.

Common side effects

Possible side effects include headache, nausea, dry mouth, decreased appetite, insomnia, anxiety, dizziness, palpitations, diarrhoea, and raised blood pressure. Serious warning signs include severe rash, blistering, mouth sores, fever, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, chest pain, hallucinations, mania, aggression, depression, or suicidal thoughts.

Important information

Use caution in heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, psychiatric illness, substance-use history, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and use of hormonal contraception. Armodafinil can reduce the effectiveness of some contraceptives during treatment and for a period after stopping. Avoid alcohol and hazardous work until the effect on alertness and judgement is known.
