Aceclofenac 100mg is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine used to relieve pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It controls symptoms rather than reversing the underlying joint disease.
How to use
Take the tablet with or after food and swallow with water. Conventional 100mg tablets are commonly used in morning and evening doses. Avoid combining with ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen or another NSAID.
How it works
Aceclofenac inhibits cyclo-oxygenase activity and lowers prostaglandin production. This reduces inflammatory pain, swelling and stiffness.
Side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, dizziness and raised liver enzymes can occur. Black stools, vomiting blood, chest pain, sudden weakness or markedly reduced urine output need urgent assessment.
Important information
Previous stomach bleeding, heart or circulation disease, kidney or liver impairment and asthma triggered by aspirin or NSAIDs are important before treatment. Anticoagulants, steroids and some antidepressants increase bleeding risk. Diuretics and ACE inhibitors or ARBs can add kidney risk. Do not use in the last trimester of pregnancy.

- Symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Benefits
Can reduce joint discomfort and stiffness, helping movement and daily function. In inflammatory arthritis it does not replace disease-modifying treatment.
Does aceclofenac slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis?
No. It reduces symptoms but is not a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug. Treatment aimed at preventing joint damage has a separate role.
Can I take low-dose aspirin with aceclofenac?
When aspirin is needed for heart protection, adding an NSAID increases stomach-bleeding risk. The pain plan should account for both treatments rather than stopping aspirin independently.
Can ankle swelling be related to treatment?
Yes. NSAIDs can cause fluid retention and raise blood pressure. New swelling, rapid weight gain or worsening breathlessness needs assessment.
Is aceclofenac a steroid?
No. It is an NSAID. It reduces inflammatory prostaglandins but does not act as a corticosteroid.
