Voriconazole 200mg is a triazole antifungal used for serious fungal infections, including invasive aspergillosis and selected Candida or other mould infections. It is used when the type of fungus and infection site make voriconazole an appropriate choice.
How to use
Take the tablet at least one hour before or one hour after food. Keep dose times evenly spaced. Blood concentrations may be measured because absorption, metabolism and interacting medicines can substantially change exposure.
How it works
Voriconazole inhibits fungal ergosterol synthesis by blocking a cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme. The resulting disruption of the fungal cell membrane limits fungal growth.
Side effects
Visual disturbances, nausea, headache, rash and raised liver enzymes can occur. Severe skin reactions, jaundice, fainting or persistent visual symptoms need prompt assessment.
Important information
Use sun protection because photosensitivity can be substantial. Liver tests and interaction review are essential, particularly with transplant medicines, anticoagulants and some anti-seizure drugs. Potassium and magnesium abnormalities can increase rhythm risk. Pregnancy should be avoided during treatment.
