Terbinafine Hydrochloride 250mg is an oral antifungal used for susceptible dermatophyte infections, particularly fungal nail disease and selected extensive skin infections. The infection site and organism determine the appropriate course.
How to use
Swallow oral tablets with or without food. Follow the prescribed course; nail appearance may recover slowly after treatment because healthy nail must grow out.
How it works
Inhibition of fungal squalene epoxidase disrupts ergosterol production and causes toxic squalene accumulation in susceptible fungi.
Side effects
Headache, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, rash and changes in taste may occur.
Important information
Baseline liver assessment is important; oral terbinafine is contraindicated in chronic or active liver disease. Persistent taste loss, jaundice, severe rash or signs of blood-cell problems need prompt review.
