Itraconazole 1% w/w 15g Gel is a topical triazole antifungal for susceptible superficial fungal skin infections. The gel is intended for local skin treatment rather than oral or vaginal administration.
How to use
Clean and dry the affected skin, then apply a thin layer of gel to the affected area and nearby skin. Wash hands afterwards unless treating the hands. Keep it away from eyes, mouth and markedly irritated or broken skin.
How it works
Inhibition of fungal lanosterol demethylase disrupts ergosterol production and compromises the fungal cell membrane.
Side effects
Local burning, itching, redness, dryness or irritation can occur.
Important information
Worsening irritation, widespread disease, nail involvement or failure to improve needs reassessment. Avoid adding steroid-combination creams without a specific prescription.

Can antifungal soap replace every prescribed cream?

Can it be put into the eye or swallowed?
No. This is a skin preparation. Keep it away from the eyes and mouth, and do not swallow it.
What helps prevent reinfection?
Keep skin folds dry, change damp clothes and avoid sharing towels or footwear.
Should I stop as soon as itching improves?
Complete the formulation-specific course because symptom relief can precede fungal clearance.
Can a steroid cream make ringworm harder to recognise?
Yes. Steroids can mask and worsen fungal infection, producing altered appearances.
Does it treat bacterial boils?
No. A suspected bacterial infection needs a different assessment.
When is a diagnosis review needed?
Contact the treating clinician if lesions persist, recur, spread rapidly or resist treatment, rather than repeatedly changing creams.
