Drotaverine 80mg + Mefenamic Acid 250mg Tablets

Drotaverine 80mg + Mefenamic Acid 250mg is an antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory combination used for painful abdominal spasm and menstrual cramps. It addresses both tightening of smooth muscle and the prostaglandin-related pain that can accompany it. It is intended for an episode of painful cramping, not for unexplained abdominal pain that continues to worsen.
Swallow the tablet with water during or after a meal to reduce stomach irritation. Use the short treatment course selected for the cramping episode. Do not add ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen or another NSAID to obtain extra pain relief.
Drotaverine relaxes smooth muscle by increasing cyclic AMP. Mefenamic acid inhibits cyclo-oxygenase enzymes and reduces prostaglandin production, decreasing pain and inflammation associated with the cramp.
Nausea, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, dizziness and low blood pressure may occur. Black stools, vomiting blood, severe persistent diarrhoea, reduced urine output or breathing difficulty need urgent assessment.
Tell your doctor about stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney disease, heart failure, NSAID-triggered asthma, low blood pressure and anticoagulant treatment. Avoid use in late pregnancy; pregnancy at any stage needs a treatment-specific decision. Dehydration increases NSAID-related kidney risk. Levodopa can interact with the drotaverine component.
Combining an antispasmodic with an NSAID can improve comfort when cramp and inflammatory pain occur together. Reduced menstrual cramping may make routine activities easier during the treated episode.
Mefenamic acid adds an anti-inflammatory pain-relief effect. It also adds stomach, kidney and bleeding precautions that do not follow from drotaverine alone.
Mefenamic acid can reduce menstrual blood loss in some treatment plans, but this combination is primarily used for painful cramping. New or unusually heavy bleeding still needs evaluation.
Repeated daily use is not an appropriate way to manage an unidentified cause. The NSAID component can cause cumulative harm, and ongoing pain may need a different diagnosis or treatment.
Mefenamic acid can cause diarrhoea, sometimes severe. Persistent diarrhoea is a reason to stop further doses and contact the treating clinician rather than continue until the tablets are finished.
