Acetazolamide 250mg Tablets

Acetazolamide 250mg is a carbonic-anhydrase inhibitor used to lower raised eye pressure in glaucoma and in selected regimens for altitude illness, fluid retention or certain seizure disorders. The intended condition determines the dose and length of treatment.
Take the tablet with water, with food if it causes nausea. When divided doses are used, an earlier final dose can reduce night-time urination. Altitude-prevention regimens begin before ascent; developing severe altitude symptoms still requires stopping ascent and arranging descent.
Acetazolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase. It reduces aqueous-humour production in the eye and increases bicarbonate loss through the kidneys. The resulting change in acid-base balance also stimulates ventilation at altitude.
Tingling in fingers or toes, increased urination, altered taste, nausea and tiredness are common. Severe rash, unusual bruising, marked weakness, confusion or rapid breathing can indicate a serious reaction or electrolyte disturbance.
Avoid use with severe kidney or liver disease, low sodium or potassium, or existing hyperchloraemic acidosis. Blood electrolytes and kidney function may need monitoring. High-dose aspirin can cause a serious interaction. Kidney-stone history and pregnancy are important before treatment.
Lowers eye-fluid production to reduce pressure and can support acclimatisation in an appropriate altitude regimen. It does not reverse established optic-nerve damage or make continued ascent safe during severe altitude illness.
Carbonic-anhydrase inhibition can change the taste of carbonated drinks. This effect is different from an allergic reaction.
Not necessarily. Tingling is a common effect even without low potassium. Supplements should be based on the overall regimen and blood results, not the symptom alone.
No. Breathlessness at rest, confusion or loss of coordination requires urgent action and descent. A tablet is not a substitute for evacuation or oxygen when needed.
The combination can increase acetazolamide toxicity and cause severe acid-base disturbance, lethargy or rapid breathing.
