Vildagliptin 100mg is a DPP-4 inhibitor used to improve blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes. It supports meal-related insulin responses and can be used alone or with other glucose-lowering medicines.
How to use
Swallow the prolonged-release tablet whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not crush or chew it. A 100mg prolonged-release product should not be exchanged for immediate-release tablets by matching tablet count alone.
How it works
Vildagliptin inhibits DPP-4, prolonging the action of incretin hormones. This increases insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion when glucose is elevated, lowering fasting and post-meal glucose.
Side effects
Headache, dizziness, nausea and low blood glucose can occur, particularly with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Persistent severe abdominal pain, jaundice or skin blistering needs prompt assessment.
Important information
Liver enzymes are measured before and during treatment because liver injury can occur. Kidney impairment can require dose reduction. Previous pancreatitis is relevant. Vildagliptin does not replace insulin in type 1 diabetes and does not treat ketoacidosis.

Does Vildagliptin 100mg commonly cause low blood sugar on its own?
The risk is relatively low alone because its insulin effect depends on glucose. Insulin and sulfonylureas increase the risk when combined with it.
Is vildagliptin the same as sitagliptin?
They are different medicines in the DPP-4 inhibitor class and are not dose-for-dose interchangeable.
Why are liver tests required?
Uncommon liver injury can develop without early symptoms, so blood tests help detect changes.
Does it usually cause weight gain?
Vildagliptin is generally weight-neutral; it is not a weight-loss medicine.
What abdominal pain needs urgent attention?
Severe persistent upper abdominal pain, especially with vomiting or pain spreading to the back, can indicate pancreatitis.
