Trihexyphenidyl 5mg Tablets

Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride 5mg is an anticholinergic medicine used as add-on treatment in Parkinson's disease and for certain drug-induced movement disorders, especially extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotic medicines. It can reduce tremor, stiffness, and abnormal muscle movements by restoring acetylcholine-dopamine balance in parts of the brain involved in movement. It is not a cure for Parkinson's disease and is not suitable for every patient, especially older adults who are more prone to confusion, memory problems, constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision, falls, and heat intolerance. Important cautions include narrow-angle glaucoma, enlarged prostate or urinary retention, bowel obstruction, severe ulcerative colitis, heart rhythm issues, cognitive impairment, psychiatric symptoms, and use with other anticholinergic or sedating medicines.
Take Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride 5mg at the same time each day as prescribed. Food may help stomach upset, and missed-dose or stopping instructions should come from the prescriber.
Trihexyphenidyl blocks muscarinic acetylcholine activity, helping rebalance movement signaling affected in Parkinsonism and extrapyramidal symptoms.
Possible effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, constipation, sleepiness, nervousness, confusion, urinary difficulty, and fast heartbeat. Serious concerns include glaucoma worsening, urinary retention, heat illness, severe confusion, hallucinations, or allergic reaction.
Review glaucoma, prostate enlargement, urinary retention, constipation or bowel obstruction, heart disease, dementia, psychiatric illness, heat exposure, pregnancy, breastfeeding, alcohol, sedatives, and other anticholinergic medicines.
