Product Introduction

Sodium Valproate 200mg + Valproic Acid 87mg is a controlled-release valproate combination used for epilepsy and selected bipolar treatment regimens. Sodium valproate and valproic acid both deliver valproate, with a release design intended to reduce fluctuations in exposure.

How to use

Take with or after food and swallow the controlled-release tablet whole. Do not crush or chew it. A switch from another valproate formulation may require a different schedule; do not substitute by tablet count alone or stop abruptly.

How it works

Both ingredients provide valproate, which enhances inhibitory GABA activity and modulates ion channels to reduce abnormal neuronal firing. Controlled release spreads delivery over time.

Side effects

Nausea, tremor, weight gain, hair thinning, sleepiness and easy bruising can occur. Persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, jaundice, unusual bleeding or marked confusion require urgent assessment.

Important information

Valproate can cause serious fetal malformations and developmental harm, so pregnancy prevention and pre-pregnancy treatment planning are essential. Liver disease, urea-cycle disorders and some mitochondrial disorders can make it unsuitable. Liver function and blood counts are monitored.
