Raloxifene 60mg is a selective oestrogen-receptor modulator used for prevention or treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. It reduces vertebral-fracture risk but is not a treatment for hot flushes.
How to use
Take at a consistent time with or without food. Maintain the calcium and vitamin D intake recommended for the osteoporosis plan, without adding excessive supplements.
How it works
Raloxifene acts like oestrogen in bone to reduce resorption, while exerting different receptor effects in breast and uterine tissues.
Side effects
Hot flushes, leg cramps, ankle swelling and sweating can occur.
Important information
It increases venous-thromboembolism risk and is contraindicated with current or previous venous clots. Stroke risk requires assessment in women with cardiovascular risk factors.

A swollen painful leg, sudden chest pain or breathlessness needs emergency assessment.
Is it for premenopausal osteoporosis?
Its established osteoporosis indication is postmenopausal; other use needs specialist assessment.
Can it replace exercise and falls prevention?
No. Bone care also includes activity, nutrition and measures to reduce falls.
Does it treat existing breast cancer?
No. Risk reduction in selected women is a different indication from treating established cancer.
What should I do during a long journey?
Plan regular movement and individual clot-prevention measures for prolonged travel with the treating clinician.
Does it reduce every type of fracture equally?
Its strongest established fracture benefit is for vertebral fractures; do not assume equivalent hip-fracture protection.
