Ofloxacin 100mg is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for selected infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including certain urinary, respiratory, skin and genital infections. Its use depends on the infection site and likely bacterial susceptibility.
How to use
Take with water, with or without food, at evenly spaced times. Separate antacids and supplements containing iron, zinc, magnesium or calcium by at least two hours. Maintain hydration and complete the infection-specific course rather than extending it independently.
How it works
Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Blocking these enzymes prevents bacterial DNA replication and leads to bacterial death.
Side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and sleep disturbance may occur. Tendon pain, new burning or numbness, severe mood changes, marked glucose disturbance or bloody diarrhoea requires prompt assessment.
Important information
Previous fluoroquinolone-related tendon injury, myasthenia gravis, prolonged QT and kidney impairment are important. Corticosteroids increase tendon risk. Some adverse nerve or tendon effects can persist, so new symptoms should not be ignored. It does not treat viral colds.

New peripheral-nerve symptoms can be a serious adverse effect and need prompt evaluation rather than waiting for the course to finish.
Can it treat every urinary infection?
No. Culture results, kidney function, resistance patterns and the infection type determine the appropriate antibiotic.
Does feeling better early mean the course should be shortened?
Symptom improvement can precede clearance of infection. The infection-specific treatment plan determines duration.
