Metronidazole 400mg Tablets

Metronidazole 400mg is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medicine used for infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria or protozoa for metronidazole treatment. It may be prescribed for conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, dental or abdominal anaerobic infections, pelvic infections, or other culture-guided infections depending on the regimen. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu. Metronidazole enters susceptible organisms and damages DNA, helping stop infection growth. The full prescribed course should be completed unless a clinician stops it, because stopping early can allow infection to persist or return. Important risks include metallic taste, nausea, diarrhea, dark urine, dizziness, yeast infection, low blood counts, seizures, encephalopathy, and peripheral neuropathy, especially with prolonged or repeated therapy.
Take Metronidazole 400mg exactly as prescribed and complete the course. Avoid alcohol and propylene glycol during treatment and for at least 3 days after the last dose. Do not skip doses.
Metronidazole is reduced inside susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, forming reactive compounds that damage DNA and inhibit organism growth.
Possible effects include metallic taste, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness, dark urine, and yeast infection. Serious concerns include seizures, encephalopathy, peripheral neuropathy, severe allergic reaction, severe diarrhea, low blood counts, and liver problems.
Review pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, brain or nerve disease, seizures, Crohn's disease, yeast infection, alcohol use, propylene glycol exposure, warfarin, lithium, disulfiram, busulfan, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and cimetidine.
Susceptible anaerobic bacterial or protozoal infections when metronidazole therapy is prescribed.
Targets anaerobic bacteria and protozoa that many ordinary antibiotics do not cover, supporting infection clearance for diagnosis and course length.
Metronidazole 400mg is used for selected anaerobic bacterial or protozoal infections when prescribed.
Alcohol should usually be avoided during treatment and for at least 3 days after the final dose.
Stopping early can allow infection to persist, return, or become harder to treat.
Dark urine can be a harmless known effect, but jaundice, severe abdominal pain, or illness should be reviewed.
Numbness, tingling, burning pain, weakness, confusion, severe dizziness, or seizures need prompt review.
