Product Introduction

Levamisole Hydrochloride 150mg is an anthelmintic used against susceptible intestinal roundworms, including Ascaris and certain hookworms. Its activity is parasite-specific rather than a treatment for every cause of abdominal symptoms.

How to use

Levamisole is taken by mouth as an infection- and weight-based course, often a single treatment rather than a continuing daily supplement. Persistent abdominal symptoms do not justify repeating treatment: reinfection, another parasite or a non-parasitic cause may require a different approach.

How it works

Activation of parasite nicotinic acetylcholine receptors produces neuromuscular paralysis, allowing susceptible worms to be expelled.

Side effects

Nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, dizziness or headache may occur; rare severe blood-cell abnormalities are important. Leukoencephalopathy, a serious injury to brain white matter, can also occur.

Important information

Levamisole can cause severe white-matter brain injury even after a single dose, with symptoms appearing weeks or months later. New weakness, speech difficulty, confusion, visual changes, seizures or loss of coordination needs urgent assessment. Fever, sore throat or mouth ulcers can indicate a serious fall in white blood cells. Tell your doctor about blood disorders, liver or kidney disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding and medicines that suppress blood-cell production.
