Etamsylate 125mg/mL injection is a haemostatic medicine used to reduce bleeding from small blood vessels, including selected perioperative bleeding situations. It supports capillary stability and platelet adhesion rather than dissolving a clot or reversing every anticoagulant.
How to use
A healthcare professional administers etamsylate by intravenous or intramuscular injection. Timing is selected around the bleeding episode or procedure; it is not swallowed or used on an oral-tablet schedule.
How it works
Etamsylate improves capillary wall stability and supports platelet adhesion at small blood vessels, helping reduce capillary bleeding and oozing.
Side effects
Possible effects include nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, skin rash, fever, dizziness, and low blood pressure symptoms. Serious warning signs include severe allergy, worsening bleeding, chest pain, leg swelling, severe headache, or fainting.
Important information
Bleeding cause should be assessed. Tell the clinician about clot history, porphyria, kidney/liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, anticoagulants, antiplatelets, hormonal therapy, anemia, and any unexplained or postmenopausal bleeding.

- Heavy menstrual bleeding, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and prevention or reduction of capillary bleeding around selected procedures when prescribed.

What does a 125mg/mL, 2mL ampoule contain?
It contains 125mg per millilitre and 250mg across the full 2mL ampoule. The amount in the ampoule is not automatically the amount required for every patient.
Can this injection stop every type of bleeding?
No. Heavy, unexplained, or emergency bleeding needs medical assessment and may need other treatment.
Is it a blood thinner?
No. Etamsylate is a haemostatic medicine, not an anticoagulant.
When should urgent care be sought?
Fainting, severe dizziness, very heavy bleeding, black stools, severe pain, or pregnancy-related bleeding needs urgent review.
Why does repeated or postmenopausal bleeding need investigation?
Recurring heavy menstrual bleeding should be evaluated to identify the cause and rule out anemia or gynecologic disease.
