Digoxin 0.25mg Tablets

Digoxin 0.25mg is a cardiac glycoside used for selected patients with heart failure and for ventricular rate control in chronic atrial fibrillation. Treatment depends on the heart rhythm, kidney function and other cardiac medicines.
Take the scheduled dose at the same time each day, with or without food. Avoid taking it at the same time as a very high-fibre meal. Do not alter the tablet count or repeat a dose because symptoms have not changed immediately.
Digoxin inhibits the sodium-potassium ATPase pump in heart cells, increasing available calcium and the strength of contraction. Its effects on vagal activity also slow conduction through the atrioventricular node.
Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and visual disturbances can occur. A new slow or irregular pulse, confusion or yellow-green vision may signal toxicity and needs urgent assessment.
Digoxin has a narrow margin between effective and toxic exposure. Kidney impairment, dehydration and low potassium or magnesium increase risk. Tell your doctor about diuretics, amiodarone, verapamil, macrolide antibiotics and all other heart medicines.
May improve exercise tolerance and heart-failure symptoms and help control a rapid ventricular rate. It has not been shown to improve survival in heart failure.
Yes. These are two ways of expressing the same amount of digoxin. Confusing milligrams and micrograms can cause a serious dosing error.
Skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose at the usual time. Do not double the next dose.
Sampling is usually just before the next dose or at least six hours after the previous dose. A sample taken too soon can be misleading.
No. It helps control heart rate but does not replace anticoagulation when stroke prevention is indicated.
Yes. Vomiting, diarrhoea or poor fluid intake can change kidney function and electrolyte balance. Contact your treating team if you become acutely unwell.
No. This strength is not a universal daily dose. Older adults and people with reduced kidney function may need a smaller or less frequent dose.
No. Both deficiency and excess can be harmful. Supplementation should follow measured potassium levels and the full cardiac treatment plan.
An improved pulse may reflect the treatment working. Stopping can worsen rate control or heart-failure symptoms, so changes need a planned cardiac review.
