Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% w/w Cream, 25 g is a very potent topical corticosteroid used for short courses of inflammatory skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment. It may be prescribed for severe eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis plaques, lichen planus, or other inflamed itchy rashes for a high-strength steroid treatment. Long or excessive use can thin skin, cause stretch marks, visible blood vessels, acne-like eruptions, delayed wound healing, color change, steroid withdrawal flares, or absorption-related adrenal suppression.
How to use
Apply a thin layer of Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% w/w Cream, 25 g to the affected skin as prescribed. Wash hands after application unless the hands are being treated. Avoid eyes, mouth, genitals, open wounds, and covering the area with airtight dressings unless the clinician instructs it.
How it works
Clobetasol activates steroid receptors in skin cells and reduces inflammatory chemical signalling. This lowers swelling, redness, itching, and immune activity in steroid-responsive skin disease.
Common side effects
Possible effects include burning, stinging, dryness, irritation, acne-like bumps, skin thinning, stretch marks, color change, visible vessels, excessive hair growth, and delayed healing. Serious concerns include worsening infection, adrenal suppression, eye-pressure problems if used near eyes, and severe rebound after prolonged misuse.
Important information
Do not use on undiagnosed rashes, acne, rosacea, fungal infections, viral lesions, or infected wounds unless specifically advised. Review use in children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, face/groin application, large-area treatment, occlusive dressings, diabetes, and repeated steroid courses.
