Product Introduction

Carvedilol 6.25mg is an oral alpha- and beta-blocker used for high blood pressure, chronic heart failure, heart-related chest pain in some patients, and left-ventricular dysfunction after a heart attack when clinically stable. It slows the heart, reduces the force of stress-hormone signalling, and relaxes blood vessels through alpha-blocking activity. This lowers blood pressure and reduces workload on the heart. It should not be stopped suddenly, especially in people with coronary artery disease, because abrupt withdrawal may worsen angina or trigger cardiac events. Taking it with food can reduce the risk of orthostatic symptoms.

How to use

Take Carvedilol 6.25mg exactly as prescribed, preferably with food. Stand up slowly until the effect is known. Do not stop suddenly or change dose without medical advice. Track pulse, blood pressure, dizziness, breathlessness, ankle swelling, and sudden weight gain if being treated for heart failure.

How it works

Carvedilol blocks beta receptors in the heart and alpha receptors in blood vessels. This slows heart rate, reduces cardiac workload, and relaxes blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

Common side effects

Common effects include dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure on standing, slow pulse, diarrhoea, weight gain, and cold hands or feet. Serious warning signs include fainting, worsening breathlessness, rapid weight gain, swollen ankles, wheezing, very slow heart rate, chest pain after abrupt stopping, or severe allergic reaction.

Important information

Use caution in asthma, COPD, diabetes, low heart rate, heart block, unstable heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, peripheral vascular disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and use with insulin, sulfonylureas, digoxin, amiodarone, diltiazem, verapamil, clonidine, or other antihypertensives.
