Bethanechol Chloride 25mg Tablets

Bethanechol Chloride 25mg is a cholinergic medicine used for urinary retention caused by inadequate bladder contraction, including non-obstructive retention after surgery or childbirth and some nerve-related bladder conditions. Its role is to improve bladder emptying when the problem is functional rather than a physical blockage.
Take the tablet on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal, to reduce nausea and vomiting. Use the scheduled doses rather than repeatedly taking extra tablets when urine does not pass. Persistent painful retention needs urgent assessment.
Bethanechol stimulates muscarinic receptors and increases contraction of the bladder's detrusor muscle. This can help the bladder push urine out when its muscle activity is inadequate. It also stimulates gut movement and secretions.
Abdominal cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, increased saliva, sweating, flushing and urinary urgency can occur. Wheezing, chest tightness, fainting or a very slow pulse may indicate excessive cholinergic effects and need prompt medical attention.
It is not used for mechanical urinary or intestinal obstruction. Tell your doctor about asthma, active peptic ulcer, slow pulse, low blood pressure, coronary disease, hyperthyroidism or seizures. Anticholinergic medicines can oppose its bladder effect, while other cholinergic medicines may intensify sweating, cramps and bradycardia.
Can improve urine passage and reduce residual urine in patients whose bladder does not contract effectively, helping relieve the discomfort of incomplete emptying.
No. A diuretic makes the kidneys produce more urine. Bethanechol acts on bladder contraction to help empty urine that has already reached the bladder.
Not when the prostate is physically obstructing the urine outlet. Increasing bladder pressure against an obstruction can be harmful; the cause of retention determines the treatment.
Effects may begin within about 30 minutes, with a fuller response often taking 60 to 90 minutes. Timing varies, and lack of urine passage should not be managed by unscheduled repeat doses.
Bladder contraction alone is not enough if the outlet remains tightly closed. Poor coordination can raise bladder pressure or push urine back toward the kidneys, so bladder emptying and residual urine may need monitoring.
Urinary retention: inability to empty the bladder adequately; Detrusor: the bladder-wall muscle that contracts during urination; Neurogenic bladder: bladder dysfunction caused by disturbed nerve signals; Muscarinic receptor: a receptor through which acetylcholine stimulates smooth muscle and glands; Residual urine: urine left in the bladder after attempting to empty it; AR: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg أقراص; FR: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg comprimés; PT: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg comprimidos; ES: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg comprimidos; RU: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg таблетки; ID: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg tablet; VI: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg viên nén; MS: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg tablet; TL: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg tableta; ZH-SG: Bethanechol Chloride 25mg 片剂
