Product Introduction

Atomoxetine is a non-stimulant treatment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. It is used as part of a broader management plan and does not provide an immediate stimulant-like effect after a single dose.

How to use

Swallow capsules intact on the prescribed regular schedule, with or without food. Do not open them because the contents can irritate the eyes; timing may be adjusted for nausea or sleep effects.

How it works

Selective inhibition of noradrenaline reuptake increases signalling involved in attention and impulse control.

Side effects

Reduced appetite, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, sleep disturbance and increased pulse or blood pressure can occur.

Important information

Monitor mood and suicidal thinking, especially in younger patients. Cardiovascular disease, liver symptoms and MAO inhibitors require particular attention.
