Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg per 5mL Injection
SKU GME235
Product Introduction
Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg combines neostigmine with glycopyrrolate and is used in anesthesia care to reverse the effect of non-depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxants after surgery or procedures. Neostigmine increases acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions so muscle strength can return, while glycopyrrolate helps counter muscarinic effects of neostigmine such as excessive salivation, bronchial secretions, slow heart rate, and intestinal cramping. This combination is not a general muscle-strength medicine and should only be used when neuromuscular recovery can be assessed by trained clinicians.
How to use
Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg is given intravenously by anesthesia or critical-care professionals. It is administered for reversal of a compatible neuromuscular blocker while the patient is monitored.
How it works
Neostigmine inhibits acetylcholinesterase, increasing acetylcholine to restore neuromuscular transmission. Glycopyrrolate blocks muscarinic receptors to reduce unwanted secretory and heart-rate effects.
Common side effects
Possible effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, salivation changes, dry mouth, blurred vision, heart-rate changes, sweating changes, urinary difficulty, and injection-site discomfort. Serious concerns include bronchospasm, severe bradycardia or tachycardia, residual paralysis, cholinergic crisis, allergic reaction, and breathing difficulty.
Important information
Review asthma/COPD, heart rhythm disease, bradycardia, recent heart attack, bowel or urinary obstruction, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, peptic ulcer disease, kidney impairment, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and medicines affecting muscle relaxation or heart rhythm.
Uses
Reversal of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker effects after anesthesia when neostigmine plus glycopyrrolate is prescribed.
Benefits
Supports return of muscle function after selected anesthesia medicines while glycopyrrolate limits neostigmine-related muscarinic effects.
What is Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg used for?
Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg is used by clinicians to reverse selected muscle-relaxant effects after anesthesia.
Why are two medicines combined?
Neostigmine restores neuromuscular transmission, while glycopyrrolate reduces unwanted secretions and heart-rate effects.
Why is breathing monitored?
Residual muscle weakness or bronchospasm can affect breathing, so recovery must be monitored closely.
Can Glycopyrrolate 0.5mg + Neostigmine Methylsulphate 2.5mg affect heart rate?
Yes. Heart-rate changes can occur, especially in patients with rhythm problems or cardiac risk.
Is it used outside hospital settings?
No. It is generally used in monitored anesthesia or critical-care settings by trained professionals.
