SKU GME527
Product Introduction
Trimethoprim 160mg + Sulphamethoxazole 800mg is a fixed-dose antibiotic combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, often called co-trimoxazole. It is used for susceptible bacterial infections such as urinary-tract infection, respiratory infection, certain gastrointestinal infections, and selected Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia treatment or prevention depending on the patient and local guidance. The two components block sequential steps in bacterial folate synthesis, giving broader antibacterial activity than either component alone. It should be used only for proven or strongly suspected susceptible infections. Interaction review is important with warfarin, methotrexate, phenytoin, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, spironolactone, diuretics, and other medicines affecting potassium, blood counts, kidneys, or bleeding.
How to use
Take Trimethoprim 160mg + Sulphamethoxazole 800mg exactly as prescribed with water. Keep the full duration, avoid unnecessary sun exposure, and report rash or severe diarrhea promptly.
How it works
Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim inhibit two sequential bacterial folate steps, reducing DNA synthesis and bacterial growth.
