Product Introduction
Sumatriptan 25mg is an acute migraine medicine from the triptan class. It is used to treat a migraine attack after symptoms start and is not intended for routine migraine prevention. Sumatriptan activates 5-HT1B/1D receptors, narrowing dilated cranial blood vessels and reducing pain-signaling neuropeptide release. It works best when used early in a typical migraine attack, but only after the headache pattern has been diagnosed as migraine. Sudden, unusual, worst-ever headache, new neurologic weakness, speech difficulty, head injury, fever with stiff neck, or a different headache pattern needs urgent assessment rather than self-treatment. Serotonin syndrome risk should be reviewed with SSRIs/SNRIs or other serotonergic medicines.
How to use
Use Sumatriptan 25mg only for an acute migraine attack as prescribed. Do not combine with another triptan or ergot medicine within 24 hours unless a clinician specifically instructs.
How it works
Sumatriptan stimulates 5-HT1B/1D receptors, narrowing migraine-related cranial blood vessels and reducing trigeminal pain signaling.
Common side effects
Possible effects include tingling, warmth, flushing, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, fatigue, and pressure sensations in the chest, throat, neck, or jaw. Serious concerns include heart attack, stroke, severe hypertension, arrhythmia, serotonin syndrome, seizure, ischemic bowel symptoms, and allergy.
