Product Introduction
Naltrexone 8mg + Bupropion HCL 90mg ER is an extended-release weight-management combination used with reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for selected adults with obesity, or overweight adults with weight-related conditions, for this therapy treatment. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist and bupropion affects dopamine and norepinephrine signaling. Together they act on appetite and reward pathways, but the medicine is not a quick weight-loss product and response should be reviewed after the recommended trial period. It must not be used in seizure disorder, current or abrupt stopping of alcohol/benzodiazepines/barbiturates/antiepileptics, eating disorders such as bulimia or anorexia, uncontrolled high blood pressure, chronic opioid use, acute opioid withdrawal, MAOI use, or use of other bupropion products. It can raise blood pressure and heart rate and carries mood, suicidal-thought, seizure, and opioid-blockade risks. Patients should avoid high-fat meals with dosing if instructed because exposure can rise.
How to use
Take Naltrexone 8mg + Bupropion HCL 90mg ER exactly on the titration schedule prescribed. Swallow ER tablets whole. Do not combine with opioids or other bupropion products. Track weight, blood pressure, mood, and side effects.
How it works
Bupropion and naltrexone act on hypothalamic appetite regulation and reward pathways involved in eating behavior and cravings.
Common side effects
Possible effects include nausea, constipation, headache, vomiting, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, anxiety, and raised blood pressure. Serious concerns include seizures, suicidal thoughts, severe hypertension, allergic reaction, angle-closure glaucoma, liver injury, and opioid withdrawal or overdose risk.
Important information
Review blood pressure, seizure history, eating disorder history, opioid use, alcohol/benzodiazepine withdrawal risk, bipolar disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts, liver/kidney disease, glaucoma, pregnancy, breastfeeding, MAOIs, antidepressants, antipsychotics, diabetes medicines, and other bupropion products.
Uses
Chronic weight management in selected adults when naltrexone plus bupropion ER therapy is prescribed with diet and activity measures.
Benefits

What is Naltrexone 8mg + Bupropion HCL 90mg ER used for?
Naltrexone 8mg + Bupropion HCL 90mg ER is used for chronic weight management in selected adults along with diet and physical activity.
Why is titration needed?
Gradual titration helps reduce nausea and improves tolerability while reaching the target regimen.
Who should not use it?
People with seizures, eating disorders, uncontrolled hypertension, chronic opioid use, acute withdrawal risk, or MAOI use usually should not use it.
Why monitor mood?
Bupropion-containing medicines can affect mood and suicidal thoughts, especially after starting or dose changes.
Can opioids be taken with it?
No routine opioid use should be combined because naltrexone blocks opioids and can trigger withdrawal or complicate pain treatment.
What if weight does not improve?
The prescriber may reassess after the recommended trial period and stop it if response is inadequate.
