Product Introduction

Danazol 50mg is a synthetic androgen-derived medicine used for selected hormone-sensitive conditions such as endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease with significant symptoms, and prevention of hereditary angioedema attacks. It works by reducing pituitary hormone signals and lowering estrogen-driven stimulation of endometrial or breast tissue. This can reduce pelvic pain, painful periods, breast tenderness, swelling, or angioedema attack frequency depending on why it is prescribed. Danazol is not a routine painkiller, fertility medicine, or general menstrual supplement.

How to use

Take Danazol 50mg exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day if possible. It may be taken with or without food. Use reliable non-hormonal contraception if pregnancy is possible. Do not stop or adjust dose without review.

How it works

Danazol suppresses pituitary release of gonadotropins and reduces estrogen/progesterone-driven tissue stimulation. It also has androgenic activity, which contributes to both benefits and side effects.

Common side effects

Possible effects include weight gain, acne, oily skin, hot flushes, sweating, mood change, irregular periods, reduced breast size, hair loss, unwanted hair growth, voice change, headache, and nausea. Serious concerns include liver injury, blood clots, raised intracranial pressure, severe headache/vision symptoms, and masculinizing effects that may not fully reverse.

Important information

Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless specialist advice says otherwise. Tell the clinician about liver disease, unexplained genital bleeding, clot history, heart/kidney disease, migraine, epilepsy, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, porphyria, and all regular medicines.
