Product Introduction
Carboprost Tromethamine 125mcg is an injectable medicine used to control excessive bleeding from the uterus after childbirth. It stimulates strong contraction of the uterine muscles, helping the uterus tighten and reduce post-delivery blood loss. It is given only in a hospital or supervised obstetric setting by trained healthcare professionals.
How to use
Carboprost Tromethamine 125mcg is administered by healthcare professionals, usually by deep intramuscular injection in an obstetric or hospital setting. It is not for self-use. Emergency support should be available for heavy bleeding, bronchospasm, blood-pressure changes, or allergic reaction.
How it works
Carboprost is a prostaglandin F2 alpha analogue. It stimulates uterine smooth muscle contraction, increasing uterine tone and helping reduce bleeding from uterine atony.
Common side effects
Common effects include diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, flushing, fever, chills, headache, and injection-site pain. Serious risks include bronchospasm, severe blood-pressure change, chest tightness, heavy ongoing bleeding, uterine rupture risk in vulnerable patients, infection, or severe allergy.
Important information
Use requires obstetric supervision. Tell the clinician about asthma, lung disease, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, glaucoma, seizure disorder, hypertension, hypotension, anaemia, pelvic infection, previous uterine surgery, and current medicines.
