Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL, 4mL Injection
SKU GME090
Product Introduction
Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL Heavy Spinal Injection, 4mL is a hyperbaric spinal anaesthetic containing bupivacaine with dextrose for subarachnoid injection. It is used in adults to produce spinal anaesthesia for selected surgical procedures.
How to use
Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL Heavy Spinal Injection, 4mL is injected into the subarachnoid space by an anaesthesia professional after sterile preparation and clinical assessment. It must not be injected into a vein or used for self-administration. Positioning and monitoring are part of the dose plan.
How it works
Bupivacaine blocks sodium-channel conduction in spinal nerve roots. Dextrose makes the solution hyperbaric, helping control spread within cerebrospinal fluid.
Common side effects
Possible effects include low blood pressure, slow heart rate, nausea, vomiting, shivering, urinary retention, back discomfort, headache, weakness, or numbness. Serious concerns include high spinal block, breathing difficulty, seizures, heart rhythm problems, cardiac arrest, nerve injury, infection, bleeding around the spine, or severe allergy.
Important information
Use only for spinal anaesthesia by trained professionals. Caution is required in low blood volume, shock, heart block, severe anaemia, infection near injection site, clotting disorders, anticoagulant use, neurologic disease, pregnancy, older age, and concurrent local anaesthetic exposure.
Uses
Spinal anaesthesia for selected adult surgical procedures for hyperbaric bupivacaine treatment.
Benefits
Provides dense, targeted spinal anaesthesia with position-influenced spread, allowing selected surgeries to be performed without full general anaesthesia.
What is Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL Heavy Spinal Injection, 4mL used for?
Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL Heavy Spinal Injection, 4mL is used to produce spinal anaesthesia for selected surgeries in adults.
Why does it contain dextrose?
Dextrose makes the solution hyperbaric, allowing positioning to influence how the spinal block spreads.
Can Bupivacaine Hydrochloride 5mg/mL + Dextrose 80mg/mL Heavy Spinal Injection, 4mL be used as a normal injection?
No. It is for subarachnoid spinal injection only by trained anaesthesia staff.
What is a high spinal block?
A high spinal block occurs when anaesthesia spreads too far upward, potentially affecting breathing and blood pressure.
Why is monitoring needed after spinal anaesthesia?
Blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, block level, bladder function, and neurologic recovery must be observed until safe recovery.
