Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection
SKU GME073
Product Introduction
Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection is an injectable anticholinergic medicine used in monitored medical settings. It is used for bradycardia where raising the heart rate is clinically needed, as pre-anaesthetic medication to reduce secretions in selected cases, as part of reversal plans for some muscle-relaxant regimens, and as an antidote in certain organophosphate or cholinergic poisoning situations. Atropine blocks acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors, which increases heart rate and reduces secretions from glands. This same action can also cause dry mouth, blurred vision, light sensitivity, fast heartbeat, urinary retention, constipation, reduced sweating, confusion, or overheating. Caution is especially important in glaucoma risk, urinary retention, prostate enlargement, bowel obstruction, heart disease, high thyroid activity, fever, and older adults.
How to use
Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection is given by a doctor or nurse by IV, IM, or subcutaneous route depending on the emergency or perioperative indication. Monitoring may include heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, mental status, breathing, and response to antidote or anaesthesia care. Do not self-administer.
How it works
Atropine blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. This reduces parasympathetic effects, raises slow heart rate, dries secretions, relaxes some smooth-muscle spasm, and counters muscarinic effects of certain poisonings.
Common side effects
Possible effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, dilated pupils, fast heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, constipation, urinary difficulty, reduced sweating, flushing, fever, dizziness, and confusion. Serious concerns include severe fast rhythm, worsening glaucoma, urinary retention, overheating, agitation, hallucinations, seizures, or severe allergic reaction.
Important information
Avoid unsupervised use. Caution is needed in narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostate enlargement, severe heart disease, arrhythmia, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, bowel obstruction, fever, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and older adults. Heat exposure can be risky because sweating may be reduced.
Uses
- Bradycardia
- Selected anaesthesia premedication
- Reversal support with some neuromuscular blocker regimens
- Organophosphate or cholinergic poisoning antidote use under supervision.
Benefits
Can rapidly increase dangerously slow heart rate, reduce secretions during selected procedures, and counter muscarinic toxicity in specific poisoning emergencies.
What is Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection used for?
Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection is used for bradycardia, selected anaesthesia uses, and certain poisoning or reversal situations under medical supervision.
Can Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection be self-administered?
No. It requires dose selection and monitoring by healthcare staff.
Why can Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection cause dry mouth and blurred vision?
Atropine blocks muscarinic acetylcholine effects, reducing secretions and affecting pupil and focusing responses.
Who needs extra caution with Atropine Sulphate 0.6mg/mL Injection?
People with glaucoma risk, urinary retention, prostate enlargement, bowel obstruction, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, fever, or older age need caution.
What symptoms suggest too much atropine effect?
Severe agitation, confusion, hallucinations, high fever, very fast heartbeat, urinary retention, or seizures need urgent care.
