Product Introduction

Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 10mg is a tricyclic antidepressant tablet. It is used for depression and, at lower doses in selected patients, may also be prescribed for neuropathic pain, migraine prevention, chronic tension-type headache, or sleep disturbance linked with chronic pain. Amitriptyline changes the activity of serotonin and norepinephrine pathways in the brain and spinal cord, which can help mood regulation and pain signalling over time. It is not an instant painkiller or sleeping pill, and benefit may take days to weeks depending on the reason for use.

How to use

Take Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 10mg exactly as prescribed, often in the evening if it causes sleepiness. Take it at the same time each day. Do not increase, skip, or stop suddenly without medical advice. Avoid alcohol and be careful with driving or machinery until the effect on alertness is known.

How it works

Amitriptyline increases the activity of norepinephrine and serotonin pathways. This supports mood regulation and also dampens pain signalling in neuropathic pain and migraine-prevention use.

Common side effects

Common effects include sleepiness, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, sweating, dizziness, tremor, headache, blurred vision, palpitations, weight change, and postural light-headedness. Serious warning signs include suicidal thoughts, severe confusion, fainting, irregular heartbeat, seizure, urinary retention, eye pain, severe allergic reaction, or serotonin-syndrome symptoms.

Important information

Use caution in heart disease, rhythm problems, glaucoma, enlarged prostate or urinary retention, seizure history, bipolar disorder, liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and older age. Avoid combining with MAO inhibitors, St John's wort, strong sedatives, or other serotonin-affecting medicines unless specifically reviewed.
