Product Introduction

Gabapentin is used for nerve pain and certain seizure conditions. It is commonly used for burning, tingling, shooting or electric-shock type nerve pain. It may also be used along with other medicines for seizure control.

How to use

Take with water, with or without food. It is usually taken at regular times each day. Do not stop suddenly, especially if used for seizures. Drowsiness can occur at the start with some products in this category. Gradual dose changes improve tolerability.

How it works

Gabapentin binds to calcium-channel related sites in the nervous system. This reduces release of excitatory nerve chemicals and helps calm abnormal pain signals or seizure-related nerve activity. Regular timing helps maintain steadier symptom control.

Common side effects

Common side effects include sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, blurred vision, poor coordination, swelling in hands or feet, weight gain, tremor and unsteadiness.

Important information

Avoid alcohol and driving if sleepy or dizzy. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Avoid alcohol if the medicine causes drowsiness, dizziness or reduced alertness.
