Terazosin 2mg is an alpha-1 blocker used to improve urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is also used for high blood pressure, depending on the treatment plan.
How to use
The first dose and dose increases are usually taken at bedtime because a sudden blood-pressure fall can cause fainting. Rise slowly from sitting or lying. After a treatment interruption, restarting may require re-titration rather than resuming a higher dose.
How it works
Terazosin blocks alpha-1 receptors in the prostate and bladder neck, relaxing smooth muscle and improving urine flow. Relaxation of blood vessels also lowers blood pressure.
Side effects
Dizziness, postural hypotension, weakness, headache, nasal congestion and ankle swelling can occur. Fainting or a painful prolonged erection needs urgent attention.
Important information
Other blood-pressure medicines and erectile-dysfunction treatments can increase hypotension. Tell the eye surgeon before cataract surgery because alpha blockers can affect the iris during surgery. Urinary symptoms still require assessment for causes other than prostate enlargement.

Does Terazosin 2mg shrink the prostate?
No. It relaxes muscle around the urinary outlet; it does not reduce prostate size in the way a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor can.
Why can the first dose cause faintness?
The initial vasodilator effect can lower standing blood pressure sharply, particularly with dehydration or other antihypertensives.
Can it be restarted at the old dose after several missed days?
A gap can restore first-dose sensitivity. The restart schedule may need to return to a lower dose.
Can sildenafil add to dizziness?
Yes. Both can lower blood pressure, making dose timing and tolerability particularly important.
Does improved flow rule out prostate cancer?
No. Symptom improvement does not establish the cause of prostate enlargement or exclude other disease.
