Tamsulosin 0.4mg + Deflazacort 30mg combines an alpha-blocker with a corticosteroid and is used in selected medical-expulsion treatment plans for ureteric stones. The intention is to ease passage by addressing ureteric muscle tone and inflammation around a stone. It does not dissolve stones or guarantee that a stone will pass without a procedure.
How to use
Swallow the prolonged-release capsule whole with water, without opening, chewing or crushing it. Take it consistently after the same meal each day to suit the tamsulosin component. This is a planned short-course combination, not a medicine to continue indefinitely for ordinary urinary symptoms.
How it works
Tamsulosin blocks alpha-1 receptors in urinary-tract smooth muscle and reduces ureteric tone. Deflazacort reduces inflammatory oedema around the stone. These complementary effects may facilitate passage in selected patients.
Side effects
Dizziness on standing, headache, altered ejaculation, indigestion, increased appetite, sleep disturbance and raised blood glucose can occur. Fainting, serious infection, gastrointestinal bleeding or a prolonged painful erection needs urgent attention.
Important information
Fever with stone-related pain, inability to pass urine, uncontrolled pain or repeated vomiting needs urgent assessment for obstruction or infection. Tell your doctor about diabetes, low blood pressure, ulcers and current steroid treatment. Mention tamsulosin before cataract surgery because it can affect the iris during the operation.

Benefits
In suitable patients, reduced ureteric tension and oedema may support spontaneous passage and reduce stone-related discomfort. Follow-up remains necessary to establish passage and protect kidney function; symptom improvement alone does not prove the obstruction has cleared.
Does Tamsulosin 0.4mg + Deflazacort 30mg dissolve a kidney stone?
No. Its purpose is to facilitate passage in selected cases. Stone size, location, kidney function and the presence of infection determine whether this approach is appropriate.
Can this combination be used long term for an enlarged prostate?
It is not equivalent to tamsulosin alone. The added systemic steroid changes the treatment's purpose and risks, so a stone-treatment course should not be converted into indefinite prostate treatment.
Does less pain mean the stone has definitely passed?
No. Pain can settle while a stone is still present. Follow-up imaging or another planned check may be needed to confirm that urine drainage is no longer obstructed.
Why can ejaculation change during treatment?
Tamsulosin can affect the smooth-muscle mechanisms involved in ejaculation, leading to reduced or absent semen emission. This differs from loss of sexual desire and is often reversible after treatment changes.
