Ramipril 2.5mg is an ACE inhibitor used for high blood pressure and selected heart-failure or cardiovascular-risk treatment plans. It reduces blood-vessel resistance and the workload on the heart.
How to use
Take with or without food at a consistent time. Initial treatment can cause dizziness, particularly with a diuretic or dehydration. Kidney function and potassium are measured after starting or increasing treatment.
How it works
Ramipril is converted to ramiprilat, which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme. Lower angiotensin II and aldosterone activity relaxes vessels and reduces salt-retaining hormonal effects.
Side effects
Dry cough, dizziness, low blood pressure and increased potassium can occur. Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat is an emergency because it can obstruct breathing.
Important information
Do not use during pregnancy. Previous ACE-inhibitor angioedema, renal artery narrowing and potassium-raising medicines are important risks. Ramipril must not overlap with sacubitril/valsartan; a defined washout interval is required to reduce angioedema risk.

Can Ramipril 2.5mg cause a persistent dry cough?
Yes. ACE inhibition can increase bradykinin and cause a dry cough that may require a different treatment.
Is facial swelling the same as an ordinary cough?
No. Lip, tongue or throat swelling can be angioedema and needs immediate emergency care.
Can a potassium salt substitute be used?
It can add to potassium elevation, particularly with kidney impairment or another potassium-raising medicine.
Why are kidney tests repeated after starting?
ACE inhibitors change kidney filtration pressure; monitoring detects an excessive creatinine rise or high potassium.
Can it be taken with sacubitril/valsartan?
No. Combining or closely overlapping them increases angioedema risk; switching requires a planned separation interval.
