Paroxetine 25mg ER tablet is an extended-release SSRI antidepressant used for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and selected premenstrual dysphoric-disorder regimens. Its release design differs from immediate-release tablets.
How to use
Take the extended-release tablet at a consistent morning time, with or without food. Swallow intact without crushing or chewing; a switch from immediate-release treatment needs a planned conversion.
How it works
Inhibition of the serotonin transporter increases serotonin availability at synapses involved in mood and anxiety regulation.
Side effects
Nausea, sweating, sleep disturbance, dry mouth, constipation and sexual dysfunction may occur.
Important information
Tell your doctor about bipolar disorder, low sodium, glaucoma and other serotonergic medicines. Do not combine paroxetine with MAO inhibitors. It can reduce tamoxifen activation. New suicidal thoughts or major behavioural changes need urgent assessment.

Does withdrawal mean it is addictive?
Discontinuation symptoms do not by themselves mean craving-based addiction, but gradual tapering is still important.
Can sexual function be affected?
Reduced desire, delayed orgasm or other sexual effects can occur and should be discussed.
Can it be taken with tamoxifen?
Paroxetine can reduce tamoxifen activation; the cancer team should select an appropriate alternative if needed.
What if I develop agitation, fever and muscle stiffness?
Seek urgent care for possible serotonin syndrome, especially after adding another serotonergic medicine.
Should pregnancy be planned in advance?
Yes. Discuss reproductive risks and alternatives without abruptly stopping treatment.
Can an extended-release tablet be crushed?
No. Crushing alters release and is unsuitable for controlled-release tablets.
