Omeprazole magnesium modified-release tablets reduce acid production in reflux and peptic-ulcer disease. The protective formulation helps the acid-sensitive medicine reach its absorption site.
How to use
Swallow the modified-release tablet intact with water before a meal, usually before breakfast. Do not crush or chew the protective formulation. Use a suitable alternative formulation if swallowing the tablet is difficult.
How it works
Omeprazole inhibits gastric H+/K+-ATPase, blocking the final step of stomach-acid secretion.
Side effects
Headache, abdominal discomfort, nausea, flatulence, diarrhoea or constipation can occur.
Important information
Difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, vomiting blood or black stools requires investigation. Extended treatment should be reviewed for magnesium, B12 and other relevant risks.
