Minocycline 65mg is an extended-release tetracycline-class antibiotic used for inflammatory lesions of moderate to severe acne. This acne-focused release formulation should not be assumed interchangeable with standard minocycline used for other bacterial infections.
How to use
Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with a full glass of water and remain upright afterwards. It can be taken with or without food; food may reduce oesophageal irritation. Separate iron, zinc and aluminium-, calcium- or magnesium-containing supplements and antacids.
How it works
Minocycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis at the 30S ribosome. Its benefit in acne also involves anti-inflammatory effects; the exact contribution of each mechanism is not fully established.
Side effects
Dizziness, vertigo, headache, nausea and pigmentation changes can occur. Severe headache with visual disturbance, jaundice, widespread rash or joint pain with fever requires prompt assessment.
Important information
Do not combine casually with isotretinoin because of intracranial-pressure risk. Pregnancy and developing teeth are important concerns. Serious autoimmune or hypersensitivity reactions are possible. Prolonged antibiotic exposure should not replace a complete acne treatment strategy.

Is Minocycline 65mg intended for every bacterial infection?
No. Extended-release acne formulations have specific clinical evidence and should not automatically inherit all uses of immediate-release minocycline.
Can it be exchanged milligram-for-milligram with a capsule?
Not automatically. Release characteristics and exposure differ, even when the active ingredient is the same.
Why can spinning or unsteadiness occur?
Minocycline can produce vestibular adverse effects, particularly dizziness or vertigo.
Does it remove established acne scars?
It treats active inflammatory lesions, not established scar tissue.
Why avoid isotretinoin at the same time?
Both medicines are associated with intracranial hypertension, and combined use increases concern.
