Maropitant 10mg/mL, 20mL Injection

Maropitant 10mg/mL is a veterinary antiemetic used to control vomiting in dogs and cats. The injection is intended for veterinary treatment, not human use, and does not treat the underlying cause of vomiting by itself.
A veterinarian calculates the injection volume from body weight. For acute vomiting, dogs aged two to less than four months receive subcutaneous injection. Dogs at least four months old and cats at least four months old can receive subcutaneous or slow intravenous injection, with intravenous administration over one to two minutes. Do not use the oral motion-sickness schedule for this injection.
Maropitant blocks neurokinin-1 receptors and prevents substance P from activating the brain's vomiting pathways.
Pain or vocalisation during injection can occur. Lethargy, reduced appetite and diarrhoea have been reported. Facial swelling, breathing difficulty or collapse requires emergency veterinary care.
Tell the veterinarian about liver disease, pregnancy or lactation, the animal's age and other medicines. Persistent vomiting, abdominal distension or suspected swallowed objects needs assessment for obstruction or another serious cause.
Helps limit repeated vomiting and associated fluid loss while the veterinarian investigates and treats the underlying illness.
No. It blocks vomiting signals and does not eliminate a bacterial infection.
No. Vial volume is the amount supplied. An animal's dose is calculated separately from body weight and the prescribed regimen.
No. The injectable maropitant reference permits subcutaneous treatment in dogs from two months old, but intravenous treatment in dogs and either injection route in cats starts at four months. These age limits concern the injectable formulation, not maropitant tablets.
Not necessarily. Injectable and oral maropitant products have different labeled uses. Travel-sickness directions for tablets should not be assumed to apply to injection.
No. Antiemetic treatment can suppress a symptom without removing an obstruction. Suspected foreign-body ingestion still needs urgent veterinary investigation.
The diagnosis and treatment plan need reassessment rather than repeated unsupervised injections. Dehydration or another underlying illness may need additional care.
Safety data are limited for breeding, pregnant and lactating animals. The veterinarian must weigh the need for treatment against that uncertainty.
Seek medical advice promptly and take the veterinary product label. Rinse accidental eye exposure with water and obtain advice if irritation persists.
