Flupentixol 0.5mg + Melitracen 10mg tablet combines a low-dose antipsychotic component with a tricyclic antidepressant for selected anxiety-associated depressive symptoms. It is not a general-purpose sleeping tablet.
How to use
Take the tablet in the morning; if a second daily dose is included in the treatment plan, it is generally taken around midday rather than bedtime because the combination can be activating and disturb sleep. Swallow with water and do not double a missed dose.
How it works
Flupentixol modulates dopamine-receptor signalling, while melitracen inhibits reuptake of noradrenaline and serotonin involved in mood regulation.
Side effects
Dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, restlessness, tremor and sleep disturbance may occur.
Important information
Tell your doctor about heart-rhythm problems, glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, bipolar disorder and seizures. MAO inhibitors, other serotonergic medicines and medicines that prolong the QT interval can cause serious interactions.

What if mood becomes unusually elevated?

Can it be combined with an MAO inhibitor?
No. Required washout intervals must be managed by the prescriber.
What about alcohol?
It can worsen dizziness, impaired judgement and other central nervous system effects.
Should palpitations or fainting be reported?
Yes. Heart-rhythm effects need urgent assessment, especially with fainting.
What if thoughts of self-harm develop?
Seek urgent mental-health or emergency support; do not wait for the next routine appointment.
