Filgrastim 300mcg Injection is a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor used to support neutrophil recovery in selected chemotherapy, transplantation and severe neutropenia settings. It is also used in defined stem-cell mobilisation regimens.
How to use
Administer subcutaneously or intravenously according to the indication and formulation protocol. Timing must be coordinated with chemotherapy; filgrastim is not given within the usual 24-hour window before or after cytotoxic chemotherapy.
How it works
Stimulation of G-CSF receptors promotes production and maturation of neutrophils in the bone marrow.
Side effects
Bone pain and injection-site reactions are common; blood-count changes occur as part of its effect.
Important information
Blood counts guide treatment. Left upper abdominal or shoulder pain, new breathing difficulty, severe allergy or sickle-cell complications require urgent assessment.

Is it the same as pegfilgrastim?
No. Duration of action and dosing schedules differ.
Why separate it from chemotherapy?
Administration too close to cytotoxic treatment can be inappropriate for the stimulated marrow cells.
Can bone pain occur?
Yes. Marrow stimulation commonly causes aching that may need a suitable pain plan.
Does it replace antibiotics for fever?
No. Fever during neutropenia remains an urgent medical problem.
Why are blood counts repeated?
They show response and help avoid unnecessary or excessive stimulation.
What does left shoulder or upper abdominal pain suggest?
Rare splenic enlargement or rupture needs urgent assessment.
Can someone with sickle-cell disease receive it routinely?
Severe sickle-cell crises have occurred; specialist risk assessment is essential.
Should an injection device be shaken?
No. Shaking can damage the protein. Keep the preparation protected from freezing and use the administration technique taught by the treatment team.
