Baclofen 30mg is an extended-release antispasticity capsule for muscle stiffness and involuntary spasms associated with conditions affecting the brain or spinal cord, such as multiple sclerosis or spinal-cord injury. Its prolonged drug-release pattern supports ongoing control of excessive muscle tone.
How to use
Swallow the extended-release capsule whole with or after food at a consistent time. Do not crush or chew it. Keep the extended-release dosing schedule separate from that of conventional baclofen tablets; switching formulations can require a change in timing and total daily amount.
How it works
Baclofen acts mainly at GABA-B receptors in the spinal cord, reducing excessive excitatory signals involved in muscle reflexes. This reduces spasms and abnormally increased muscle tone.
Side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, tiredness, nausea and confusion may occur. Marked difficulty staying awake, slowed breathing, seizures or severe confusion require urgent medical care.
Important information
Do not stop regular baclofen abruptly: withdrawal can cause rebound spasticity, hallucinations, fever and seizures. Kidney impairment increases the risk of accumulation and toxicity. Tell your doctor about kidney disease, epilepsy, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any opioid, sleeping medicine or sedative. Alcohol can intensify sedation and breathing suppression.

Can baclofen make walking harder despite reducing stiffness?
Sometimes. A person may rely on some muscle tone to stand or transfer, and excessive relaxation can uncover weakness. The aim is better function and comfort, not removal of all muscle tone.
Why is kidney function important with baclofen?
Much of the medicine leaves the body through the kidneys. Reduced clearance can cause toxicity at doses that another person tolerates, particularly in advanced kidney disease.
Can I drive when I start baclofen?
Drowsiness, dizziness or muscle weakness can affect safe driving, especially after the first doses or a dose increase. Avoid driving while these effects are present.
